Somehow I was lucky enough to draw an M11 tag this year. Between work and family I was able to hunt for 10 days out of the season, but only needed 8. Got off to a late start on the first day and got where we were going by dark and rainy. Found an open campground and slept in the runner for the night. The next morning turned out to be nice and sunny. Half way through the hunt we ran into a Game Warden. The guy was pretty cool, checked out my tag and muzzle loader and was surprised I drew the tag with only one point. He gave a few pointers on where to go since there were some road closures and we went on our way. At the end on the day we saw another hunter who was lucky enough to fill his tag. Didn't see the rack on the deer though.

The next few days were rainy and snowy but filled with does, fawns and a handful of smaller bucks. After 3 nights of sleeping in the back of the runner we got a Super 8. The next morning the weather had cleared and the deer were up and moving. Came across a nice big 3x3. The first decent buck of the trip and I just stared at him. I told myself this was a hunt of a lifetime and I got greedy. the next buck was a 4x4, but since I was blessed with Asthma, it chose then to end my hunt with a lovely attack. On the way back to camp we ran into another hunter who also got drawn for M11, shared a story or two and went on our way. We came home for a few days because I couldn't get the 3 days before thanksgiving off because I got the week prior off but headed back up on Thanksgiving.

That afternoon we came across a doe and the biggest buck I have seen. We spooked them, but somehow my boyfriend called and got them to stop. I put my gun up but was way to excited and shaking too steady it. I tried to kneel down and use my shooting sticks but couldn't see the buck. By this time you would think he would have run off again because of all my movement but he didn't. I tried to steady myself against a tree, got him in my sights, took a deep breath and pulled the trigger. I missed... still upsetting thinking about it. But the next morning we walked up on some does and fawns just a few yards away and stopped once we noticed. They slowly walked off and as the last one was walking out of sight she looked back at something that had made a noise and there he was. After determining he was a legal buck I sat down with my shooting sticks and pulled the trigger. He ran down a hill and didn't see him at first but found the blood trail not to far from where I shot him and found him not much further down the hill.

It was a hell of a hunt and I hope I am fortunate enough to do it again.
