We will be having the next Mendocino County Fish & Game Commission meeting at the Mendocino County Library in Ukiah on December 13th, at 6:00 PM. We have two items on the agenda you might be interested in:
Discussion and Possible Action Regarding Watermen’s Alliance and Department of Fish and Wildlife Co-hosted meeting on December
3rd in Fort Bragg to discuss current and future abalone management. (Guerrero)
Discussion and Possible Action Regarding Prosecution of local Fish and Wildlife Regulation Infractions (White)
We need to start educating the local prosecutors about our perceptions of their lack of appropriate prosecution (plea bargaining), minimal sentencing, and fines that they are levying on convicted violators.
Fish & Wildlife enforcement from my perspective, is aggressively enforcing fish & game laws in Mendocino County. I do fear, however that the violators they are citing are not suffering the consequences of stiff penalties and sentencing in our county.
We would like to hear your concerns and potential input on drafting language to send to the board of supervisors on game enforcement prosecution in Mendocino County and also on Abalone Fisheries Management Plan (FMP) development to the State Fish & Game Commission.
If we can actively engage at the local level and have our voices heard the local government entities might start hearing us and help us further our causes at both the county and state level.
As always there is a public expression period where you can bring issues forward. You can always contact me if you want to add an item to the agenda where you wish to make a presentation to the County Commission regarding Fish & Game issues. You can also write the secretary to add an agenda item at firstname.lastname@example.org
