About Me

Until I found this site, I was suffering from a severe case of Blacktail deprivation. The years of frantically searching through the latest batch of hunting magazines on the shelf, hoping to find anything with the words Blacktail Deer. If you've been there, you know what I found, Nuthin! Not only was there no "professional" writers with experience, they actually had the gall to compare their beloved Whitetail to a deer they hadn't even hunted! To top that off, in 40 yrs. of searching those glossy periodicals, I could count on one hand the number of photographs that were a decent representation of the Blacktail Deer.

Let me explain. I'm not a great hunter, nuthin of the sort. I'm just an average guy, who happens to love to hunt, hike, photograph, or anything to get out in the woods, and that's all year long. To most people I'm a very very boring guy. The very nature of what I love tends to make it a solitary thing, and my wife would call me the ultimate loner. That is until I found you guys.

I was forced, because of work obligations, to learn to use this elelctronic gismo called a computer. Shortly after stumbling into this new world, I typed in the words Blacktail. After being shocked by the other meanings assigned to that word, I arrived at what has become my home, BLACKTAIL COUNTRY. I was like a kid in a candy store, and for months didn't even bother clicking the entry to the forum. Instantly there were pages of stories, from people who regarded the Blacktail Deer, as highly as I do. And if you haven't gone back and reviewed the photography there, you really should.

When I finally did click that forum button, it opened a whole new world. Here were a whole bunch of guys (and gals) who shared my interests. Believe me, it was awhile before I got up enough nerve to make that first post. Being the "new kid on the block", can really be tough. I really feel for the ones who feel they have to apologize for the size of their deer, or for the lack of a deer at all, or for spelling errors, or what ever. THAT JUST AIN'T IMPORTANT! Don't get me wrong, a big buck IS important, and the guys who do it year after year amaze me. The things they can teach the new hunters, or us not so successful hunters, is worth a million "BUCKS", (pun intended). And for me the guys who get photo after perfect photo, year after year are even more amazing.
