Russell Roach's Huge Columbian Blacktail.
...Russell Roach harvested this huge Columbian Blacktail in Mendocino County, California, on the last day of California's 2002 B-zone season. The incredible buck sports eleven points on his left antler and six on his right. He grosses an incredible 187 4/8 and nets 183 3/8 B&C non-typical. He has an outside spread of 25 1/2 inches and carries incredible mass throughout his impressive heavy, high, rack. This buck is an excellent example of what good genetics and habitat can produce. The area were Russell's buck was taken is well know for producing record class blacktails. Every year a few bucks approaching 30 inches and non-typical bucks with multiple points are taken out of this portion of California. Wary Blacktails of this enormity are rarely taken by hunters, but they do exist, as the Russell Roach buck once again proves.
...I had the good fortune to meet Russell and see his buck in person, let me tell you, it is simply amazing. Russell brought the huge buck over to be scored, so I can also verify the score. You simply have to see this buck to believe it. The mass is incredible. Thanks Russell for sharing your incredible buck with us here at BTC.
Editors Note: To the skeptics out there. This
is not a Muley or Blacktail/Muley cross. It is a pure, 100%, Columbian
Blacktail. The nearest mule deer is more than 150 miles
away. The Roach buck once again proves many hunters don't give the Columbian
Blacktail the recognition it so rightfully deserves.
